Bharatanatyam spreads its wings in China

The year 2006 was declared as the year of Indo-China Friendship. What better way to foster friendship than through exchange of culture and dances? This is exactly what the Srutilaya classical Indian (Bharata natyam) dance troupe from Dallas, USA had in mind when they visited China in July 2006 to give performances and workshops in China and, in turn, learn about Chinese classical music and dance forms.  The programs in China were arranged in part through the Chinese Government and the Indian embassy in China.

Nine Srutilaya dancers toured China under the coordination of Madhusri Sethuraman and performed in the following places:

  1. Beijing Music Conservatory and Dance Academy
  2. Beijing University of Chemical Technology
  3. Shanghai Grand Theater
  4. Shanghai Theater Academy
  5. City University of Hong Kong
